Install the runtime.

It's one crate with the CPU core inside, and cargo builds all of it with a plain Rust toolchain. We don't host downloads here. The links below go to crates.io, docs.rs and GitLab.

How you get it

From crates.io

$ cargo install rigless
$ rigless run --machine pixracer --until 2ms firmware.elf

The bus and the chip models, the SoC and board models, the SVD generator and the core all live in that one crate, so there's a single version number to care about. The core uses Cranelift to translate the firmware's instructions to host code and runs in the same process as everything else.

You need Rust 1.98 or newer. The package includes all the sources the build needs, so the install only talks to crates.io.

From a checkout, if you're working on the core

$ cargo install --path .

It builds from the same sources as the crates.io package. The repository's rust-toolchain.toml pins the Rust version for rustup.

docs.rs · source

rigless-rtos is what lets GDB list the threads of a ChibiOS or FreeRTOS firmware. rigless pulls it in for you, and other debuggers can use it too.

License

MIT or Apache-2.0

Either one covers the core, the models and the command line, so pick whichever suits you. Register tables the generator writes from a vendor's SVD carry that vendor's license, which is Apache-2.0 for the STM32F427.

The engine, the plant interface and the reference plants aren't part of this. They're under the Rigless License or proprietary.

Crate features

cargo install gives you the default features. If you depend on rigless as a library you can turn them off, but that turns off the only board and its SoC too, so add back the one you need with default-features = false, features = ["pixracer"]. A board you model yourself only needs cli. Pass it to rigless::cli::main from your own binary, and that binary works like the rigless command for your board.

cli

on by default

The rigless binary, rigless::cli::main for a binary of your own, and the SVD generator. Turn it off if you only want the library.

pixracer

on by default

The Pixracer board, meaning its crystals, its supply rail, the chips on its buses and the outputs a plant reads. It turns on stm32f427.

stm32f427

on with pixracer

ST's SVD and the tables generated from it, the memory map, the fixes from the reference manual where the SVD is wrong, and the peripheral models.

svd

on with cli

Just the generator, for a tool that turns a vendor SVD into register tables without pulling in the command line.

Latest release

This page asks crates.io for the current version when it loads, so it matches what cargo install rigless gives you. Older versions are still on crates.io if you've pinned one.
